Second Beach, Olympic National Park, 2012

I made this image earlier this summer, on a trip out to the Olympic National Park with Sai and Ed. On this day, we had planned to get to the beach with plenty of time to set up for sunset. But, as luck would have it, it turned out to be one of those typical Northwest ends-of-the-day, with a thick band of clouds obliterating the horizon. I made it onto the beach just in time to catch this scene, with the rays of the sinking sun illuminating the ribbon of clouds that had come sweeping down the coastline.

Light on the Land, IV

Red Barn, Eastern Washington, 2012

Been a long time. Family matters bring me back to Asia and it feels a bit odd, but here’s one from the archives, made some 4 months and 16 time zones away…

I made this image in summer just outside Uniontown in Eastern Washington. Ed and I were on our way home from the weekend shoot, still marveling at the broad bands of light and shadow that lazily drift over the Palouse when we drove past this lush field of green…and lo and behold…a picture-perfect red barn. It was obvious that the owners didn’t want trespassers traipsing through the delicate wheat so we stuck to the public areas, absorbing the beauty and making a few images.

A Walk in the Woods

Hoh Rainforest, 2012

I made this image several weeks ago on a trip to the Olympic National Park. This was a path through the Hoh Rainforest, a national treasure with enormous, jaw-dropping stands of magnificent moss-covered old growth.
