Beijing at Night

with 2 comments

These are a couple images that I made while wandering around the Sanlitun area in Beijing. The first is of one of the famous ring roads (3rd, in this case). I shot this on the third night of National Day Golden Week, so traffic was fairly light, allowing me capture the Chinese characters (出口 – exit) in the roadway.

This second image is of the Yashow Clothing Market. A haggler’s paradise, this is where you can get everything from knockoff Guccis to infamous Red Army hats to jade amulets. Sanlitun is the nightlife and embassy district so even though it was Golden Week, the place was hopping.

Stepping Out

Some of you know that I have an odd fascination with shooting in airports. I made this image in Chengdu International, on my way back to Beijing. Between arriving late and leaving early, I didn’t get to see much of the city….something that needs to be rectified the next time I’m in the area. Who will go with me?

This Morning

We’ve had a ton of rain in the past 72 hours. Caught a break during rush hour this morning. I was running a bit early and pulled into an empty lot to check e-mail. As I looked around, this scene materialized. Such gorgeous light. I love the oblique rays of the sun on winter mornings.

p.s. Not bad for a phone pic, huh?

Looking The Other Way

I shot this last weekend. Everyone gathered (watching sunsets is big around here!) was facing southwest in anticipation of the setting sun. I didn’t like the ominous blanket of clouds in that direction and turned north instead.
