Fishing in Fire

Fishing in Fire

Great Blue Herons love to fish when the sun goes down. I made this exposure on an evening when the pink-orange-red rays of the rapidly-descending sun reflected off the low-lying clouds, setting the water on fire. With this image, I chose to keep the shutter open a little longer to capture a bit of motion blur in the water. At the same time, I was able to keep focus on the subject because these majestic creatures will stand still for minutes on end, waiting for just the right time to pounce.

Chiaroscuro

Most of the trees have shed their spring blooms and sprouted early, early leaves. Here are a couple more images that I made while things were in full swing. Pardon the self-indulgence!

Amidst Spring Blossoms

Right now, we’re inside of those magical 2 to 3 weeks when the trees have sprung to life and adorned themselves in beautiful whites, pinks and peaches. Here are a couple of images that I just made. I hope you get as much of a kick viewing them as I did when I made them!

Winter Afterglow

Winter Afterglow

Winter Afterglow

I made this image earlier this year, under the skies of a brilliant Winter afterglow. Actually, this was more of a prelude to the afterglow proper- a couple of minutes after I made the exposure, the sky and water absolutely caught fire. But I prefer the mellow pinks, blues and violets of this image.
