I shot this on a calm Winter evening, shortly after the sun had dropped below the horizon…my favorite time of day 😉

World Awhirl

There they were – thousands of them – like a late winter snow blanketing the landscape. A gregarious blanket, noisily chomping at shoots, honking and hissing and generally being obnoxious.

Then, in the blink of an eye, they were in the air, every last one of them. Thousands, moving as one. In less than a minute, they were gone.

I was stunned. “What did I do that so spooked them?” After all, I’d been there for a good 20 to 30 minutes and they had hardly seemed to mind.

Then, glancing high up into the blue sky, I spotted the real reason. A lone bald eagle, cruising in lazy circles in the thermals. I guess no one wanted to be dinner.

And The Gray Came Swept In, Gobbling Up The Day

A couple of weeks ago, I made it out to the ocean on a nice afternoon, hoping to catch the sunset. But as that time approached, the clouds – the kind that envelope everything from the horizon and up – blew in. Ahh, such is (weather) life in the Northwest!
